Iken Design and Print Studio

We had helped “Iken Design and Print Studio” transform from a designing and printing business for flyers and other printed commodities to “Iken Marketing”, a marketing firm for businesses. It sounds like a world apart at first but it makes complete sense if you realise that the purpose of printouts is indeed for marketing purposes. Today, Iken Marketing has expanded into both online and offline marketing for its clientes, which still encompasses flyer printing at its core.

Now, they also do distributions and collect data about the businesses target audiences as compared to just designing and printing them. Interestingly, the same designed posters can also be marketed online through various platforms, allowing Iken to stay relevant in recent times.

Our Wine Coterie

Our Wine Coterie (OWC) was a traditional Warehouse business providing Wine Storage solutions for wine enthusiasts. There was just one problem – the market and customer base was way too small. The business targets a very specific group of people that would treasure and protect their wines in a way most people won’t. OWC could continue waiting on walk-in customers to come by to store their wine or they could scale up their business to increase their sales rate. With our advisory, OWC has applied the “Cause and Effect” strategy to completely revamp their business and rebrand themselves.

Today, they have ventured into an Ecommerce site that not only sells wine but runs wine auctions too! This allows the wine enthusiast community to gather in one place to buy, sell and trade wine. Since wine auctioning is made readily available on the internet, the purchase of valuable vintage wines increases, causing the demand for wine storage to go up drastically. They also have the added advantage of being the first online wine auction platform in Singapore. Lastly, OWC has also turned the warehouse partly into a wine cellar with private dining space for guests to host parties and wine tastings. This is a true example of what design thinking and extensive marketing research can benefit a business. Following the design blueprints of the rebranded OWC, we were also able to take off with our marketing team. These are some examples of the advertising collaterals we’ve done for OWC.

Ritz Houzz

Ritz Houzz was a retail extension of a Singapore-based Mattress Distributor and Wholesaler, Far East Foam Pte Ltd. In order to display the beds, Ritz Houzz has 3 big showrooms in 3 different places. However, these showrooms are away from shopping malls. This means that there was a lack of walk-in customers and Ritz Houzz struggled to keep up with the high overhead cost on the rented spaces.

Thus far, they have always been able to sustain with roadshows and warehouse sales. However, in light of the recent Coronavirus outbreak, Ritz Houzz had to change up their business model fast. Easy! Just go “online” like everyone else right? It’s not quite straightforward. Few people would be convinced to buy beds online without first lying on them. What would be the motivating reason for a person to buy a mattress online then?

After much marketing research, we have found the solution for our Ritz Houzz client. People would buy a mattress that is cheaper than the current market and yet still very comfortable to sleep in. Well, in the US, there’s already such a product group called “mattress in a box”, one where it comes in a portable box that you can unroll and inflate the mattress by yourself! It’s great for the pandemic times too, since you don’t need 4 men coming into your house and moving your bed in at an arranged time. (Logistic make possible)

With Far East Foam strength as a wholesaler, we were able to conceptualise “Aaru”, Singapore’s first boxed mattress and ensure the lowest market price on such mattresses. The best part is, since the mattresses already come in a box, it is ready to be sold online and shipped off upon notice! With this business development, Ritz Houzz is able to scale up as a multi-sided platform and drive traffic to their showrooms, should their customers be interested in our mattress brands.

Printworks

Printworks is a traditional printing business that relies largely on walk-in customers for sales. The process to closing a sale is also long and rather tedious one as the printing consultants spend a lot of time advising their customers on the type of print products they should go for. Despite many back-and-forth emails on different quotations, a customer may choose not to purchase from Printworks in the end. Because so much time is spent on this aspect of the business, it seemed almost impossible for Printworks to expand into other types of products or spend their finite time on marketing.

MIBC implemented changes to help Printworks to free up resources and time. We adopted a “long-tail” business model approach whereby a business can sell a large variety of products with little start up cost. If you’re thinking, “Just put their products on the website”, that’s only half the answer. Remember, the goal is to not only save time but speed up the sales process. With MIBC’s backend web system, Printworks is able to set up different criterias like how much a product would cost for different production rates (the more express the service, the more expensive it would be) and do stocktaking and accounting on the same platform. Of course, the shoppers will be able to view all types of products, make informed decisions by themselves and check out with their purchase. The printing consultants can then follow up with the closed sales. This is how we have used our backend web system to benefit Printworks on top of providing business solutions.

Pama Baby Products is an e-commerce business like many others on the internet. With a massive selection of products drowning in the few competitive marketplaces, where does Pama position itself in the market? With our guidance at MIBC, Pama had undergone the strategic design thinking to find its business position. This would involve idelating business ideas and testing out their business model. Thus, Pama transformed from drop shipping as a distributor/retailer to being an OEM wholesaler business.

Pama made these changes because they had found their strengths – sourcing for wholesale products and logistics. Moreover, Pama will be able to establish its own network of resellers to sell their baby products. Plus, Pama also has an added advantage working with us – we have a marketplace (iBeaver Shop) for them to start with and a backend system to keep track of their stocks, finances and accounting!
